At this point in time there is no Sims 5. We are sure there will be a fifth version of the popular Sims franchise in the future, EA has no problem bleeding a franchise for all its worth, but any rumors or hints or hints of rumors are, at this point, nothing more than click-baity attention grabbing nonsense.
The Sims franchise has proven itself to be addictive and quite resilient to alienating its own fan base. The lack of features in Sims 4, features that were very much established in Sims 3, were taken out without notice. When the game was release in 2014, EA even made sure to hold back any review copies to ensure none would ruin the bait-and-switch it seemed to pull on the fans of Sims 3.
Sims 4 is nevertheless not a bad game by itself, but in terms of game play it does not hold up to Sims 3. Having said that, EA is not the type to shrink away from the disappointment of its fans. Either it will release a new Sims game to win the fans back, or it will develop some new mechanic that makes them more money exploiting the fans they have left, maybe to test their tolerance. Either way, EA will have another Sims in the future, if simply to keep the cash cow mooing.
There is a possibility that EA may decide to reboot the series. Much like with Star Wars Battlefront or Sim City, EA may decide to further alienate die-hard Sims 3 fans, by re-engineering the game with much better graphics but much simpler game play, even further than it has already win Sims 4. But it could also do what it did with Battlefront 1, and take the player into a different experience altogether, reviving the franchise and making up for it loss of fan trust. Anything is possible.
But don’t expect much movement until the Sims 4 DLCs begin to drop significantly in their appeal to the masses of Sims fans who cannot but hope that the next DLC will have just one more of the lost features. Ranging from $10 to $40, each Sims DLC can makes as much money as the sale of a single full game, though I’m sure these carry some diminishing returns. For EA, as long as they can push out a game pack with some new furniture and have the fans pay ridiculous amounts for models that were probably computer generated 3 years ago by an unpaid intern, its not a bad business to be in.
So yes, there will be another Sims, it may even be called Sims 5, just don’t expect it to be better than Sims 3.
